The dark horse issue that will have an effect on the election

http://www.helium.com

The dark horse issue for the 2012 election cycle is Ron Paul’s influence over the delegate count for the Republican Party. Most people do not realize that the Republican primary races do not determine the nominee in the various states. Delegates are chosen after the popular election in a separate vote at a state convention by party insiders. This process is rarely reported in the main stream media.

How Do I Tell My Daughter I Don't Believe in God?

There are chunks of society saying if you don’t believe in God you’re a bad person. Will Lizzie intuit that she’s bad if she doesn’t believe — or that her mother is?

Simple Difference

http://1787network.com

When a libertarian hears something on the radio he doesn’t like, say an NPR Editorial or a Strasburg Waltz, he turns the channel; exercising free will and choosing not to listen to what they want without infringing on other peoples free choice to listen. When a Liberal rears something on the radio he doesn’t like, say a Rush Editorial or a Lee Greenwood moldy oldy they try to create a law like the “Fairness Doctrine” or take some other actions so that nobody has the choice to listen to what liberals don’t want to hear.

The philosophy of freedom: Much more than demanding government get out of our lives, you must first get the tyranny out of your oDo you agree with this statement? Government has no business telling us what to drink, what to eat, what kind of medicine we should take, what to smoke, what to farm, or how to run our private lives.

Church Kidnaps Teens, Holds Them At Gunpoint As A 'Lesson'

http://www.youtube.com

http://RevolutionNews.US - "The Glad Tidings Assembly of God church in Middletown, Pa., has sparked outrage after a teaching exercise traumatized its youth group and left some with physical bruises, WHTM TV reports. A shaken 14-year-old told the station two men came into the room with guns, pulled pillow cases over some of their heads, and pushed them into a van...".

Tennessee bureaucrats' affinity for "religion"

http://www.wbir.com

The "Ten Commandments" bill passed the House on 93-0 vote in favor of this and other “historically significant documents” to be displayed in public places regardless of that whole constitution thingy. One is baffled by the irony of a prominent, large, and gaudy display forbidding lying and stealing at courthouses considering some of the chosen occupations of those who work there.
Then, there is the Lenoir City police department. How separate can church and state be with the word "religion" right there on the police uniforms?

A little hope is effective - Hunger Games

http://obitur-dictum.blogspot.com

The ancient Romans made their circenses a centerpiece of public policy, along with free bread (panem -- also the name of the nation ruled by the "Capitol" in the movie). But they found that the spectacle of merely feeding people to lions, with no chance to win, became less popular than the gladiatorial contests, and that the gladiators wouldn't put on a good show unless they had a chance.

The Irrationality of Politics (a bit of a mind f***)

http://www.youtube.com

NOT surprising: US politicians/the federal gov't are irrational.

MORE surprising: YOU are probably irrational, too, and this somewhat dorky-looking guy will convince you of that in just 14 minutes.

An exceptional video from one of the TEDx events.

Bill Murray On Personal Responsibility

http://thehill.com

Actor Bill Murray on Friday said he believes Americans need to be more personally responsible for their well-being.

"I think we ought to be personally responsible," he said on CNBC's "Squawk Box" Friday morning. "I think if you can take care of yourself, and then maybe try to take care of someone else, that's sort of how you're supposed to live.

Slab City, Living Life Off the Grid in California's Badlands

http://www.time.com

Slab City...is a squatters' camp deep in the badlands of California's poorest county, where the road ends and the sun reigns. These days, their numbers are growing thanks to a modest influx of recession refugees...attracted by do-it-yourself, rent-free living beyond the reach of electricity, running water and the law. Last Free Place in America" lives up to its nickname.

Ye Olde Rebel of the Week: Lysander Spooner

http://silverunderground.com

Today happens to be the birthday of one of my all time favorite rebels. So, I thought I’d take us back in time and declare Lysander Spooner the rebel of this week in 1808.

Lysander Spooner was a nineteenth century American political philosopher, pamphleteer, entrepreneur, abolitionist and individualist anarchist. Spooner advocated what he called the “Science of Justice” which held that the initiation of coercion against an individual or their property was a natural crime, but so-called crimes that violated man-made statutes but had no victim were no crime at all.

The GOP's Fear of the Rise of Ron Paul

http://news.yahoo.com

After Iowa, Republican Party finally figures out the fit has hit the shan, wants desperately not to get "Perot'd" by Ron Paul and his supporters. In fact, there are hints Republican operatives actually _understand_ Paul and his supporters as NOT "kooks." The key comment: "Paul agrees with us 85 percent of the time," said the operative, "and his supporters are earnest conservatives and libertarians who have no reason to support Obama in 2012 unless they're stepped on by our team."
